George Tsoukalis was born in Ioannina city in February 1957. His father worked as a civil servant for the local municipality and his grandfather, as an athlete, was champion of the balkans and a physical education teacher.
Mr. Tsoukalis graduated from the primary school of the beautiful epirus city and proceeded to study at the Economic High School of Ioannina. He was also a track athlete throughout his adolescence.
In 1974 he was admitted to the Industrial University of Piraeus from which he graduated in 1979. Between 1977 and 1979 he served his military service as a cadet for the artillery branch.
Parallel to his studies he worked at the hippodrome and at a boarding house in Metaxa’s square in Piraeus. In 1981 he worked as a sales manager for Ricomex which its building collapsed in an earthquake in 1999.
His involvement with private investigators, which was a lifelong dream, began after responding to a newspaper job posting that was seeking for «an active young person for part time work and various duties».
This job opening turned out to have been posted by a private investigator.
In 1982 he opened his own Private Investigations office at Sokratous street and later moved to its current address at Panepistimiou street.
His first case concerned some issues that a family from Constantinople had with their inheritance. In fact, in Constantinople, he managed to attract more Greek clients and therefore travelled there very frequently.
The next important case concerned a 45 year old employee of a London based shipping company who was embezzling documents and was handing them to the company’s competitors.
Since then Mr. Tsoukalis handled hundreds of cases of industrial espionage, cases of missing minors, frauds, forgeries and many others.
Additionally, in 1990, he founded a building company in his birthplace, Ioannina. At the same time he was a member of the board of directors of PAS Giannena F.C. and also a sponsor of the Olympiacos Women’s polo team.
He has published a lot of articles with relation to his investigations in Greek and foreign publications. Since 1997 he was writing for the successful column «Listening Together» in Apogevmatini newspaper and later carried over this column to Press Time newspaper.
In 1990 he founded «Athina», the unofficial association for combating looting and selling of stolen of ancient artifacts and managed to uncover twenty organised criminal groups and gangs that were stealing ancient artifacts.
The most important case came up on the 7th of September 1999 with the discovery, in New York, of a total of 258 ancient artifacts that were stolen from Corinth museum back in 1990.
Mr. Tsoukalis and his collaborators played a very important role in the opening up of negotiations with those that had in their possession those artifacts managing their return to Greece.
During recent years he has achieved remarkable success in cases of stolen ancient artifacts but also in various other cases.
His participation in one the most famous cases in Greece, the disappearance of Alex in Veroia city, is indicative of his success. He was awarded with the «Merit Diploma» by the Guiseppe Sciacca international awards. He was also awarded by the Greek Writers Association and by the UNESCO club of the Department of Piraeus and Islands.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of his involvement with battling the looting and stealing of ancient antiquities.
During these 30 years of volunteer work 16537 stolen ancient artifacts for all over the world were returned to the state of Greece.
P.S. He once arrested a person that stole and had in his possession Incas artifacts.
